Accelrys starts community blog
Accelrys has recently started their blog for the scientific and engineering research community. Although Accelrys is not very first in this foray but this is good move to engage the scientific community. This blog addresses subjects in Life Sciences including cheminformatics, data mining & knowledge discovery, molecular modeling & simulations, personalized medicine and translational medicine. Also subjects in chemicals, materials and manufacturing include atomic-scale modeling, informatics, materials, multi-scale modeling and nanotechnology. In fact there are already several interesting posts by Accelrys research community, for example an open dialogue with Christopher Lipinski about drug discovery & development. In coming days I hope Accelrys technology team will share their ideas about scientific workflows, effective software development practices for scientific and high end computing in general. As Christopher Lipinski suggests software for the (bench) biologist – it needs to be dead easy, no doubt Accelerys has set a new standard for user friendly software tools. They are early adopters of different open source toolkits such as BioPerl and BioJava, but will they contribute back to community by making some part of their technology more open and available for community developers? I hope so.

Accelrys and user friendly in the same sentence. Where were you when I was there
. But seriously the blog is a pleasant surprise. I remember talking to folks about it 4 years ago

PipeLine pilot is definitely user friendly, I don’t know rest of offering but it comes with a $$$$$
I was a product manager there for three plus years, so making some fun of my time there. Always thought that PP was one of the finest pieces of software written for the sciences.
ha ha, thats true. Also If I am not wrong then most of Accelrys’s top products came by organic growth, very few originally developed inside teams. They acquired SciTegic so got PP else what they had. Now PP became biggest saviour for them.
and the founders of scitegic used to be at biosym or was that msi … it’s easy to get confused
